We are Sam Brodie and Andy McKenna, and we run a child literacy website called Improve Literacy. On the site we sell a personalised and fully illustrated storybook, which we have written ourselves. You create the appearance and names of the story’s characters on the website, and we print off and deliver a saddle-stitched version of the book by mail. The story contains a ‘hero’ child character, a friend, and an adult character. Parents can then create a story that has their child as the main character.
The premise behind this is our belief that children learn best when they are stimulated, motivated, and having fun, so reading about their own adventures would create an ideal learning environment. The story contains a number of basic spelling challenges to engage the readers and help them to learn.
Our aim is to help parents to encourage their children to read, and so as well as our website we have started a blog to share news, tips and insights into how you can help your children to read.
